Mailio
Mailio is a simple web mail client that has been designed for use by children. It behaves just like a real-world desktop email client, but has only a minimal set of features. The aim is to make email both fun and safe for kids to use.
- Safe: Only sends to and receives from a ‘white list’ of addresses.
- Easy: No ‘wrong buttons’ to click – just a basic set of features.
- Real: Looks and feels like a desktop email client, so becomes a useful learning aid.
In further detail, Mailio reduces the risk of teaching kids to use email. As email can only be sent to people in the parentally-controlled address book, children can’t send email to people the parent hasn't approved. Similarly, email arriving from an unknown source is kept back for parental review. The aim is to enable kids to use email freely and on their terms, whilst remaining safe from viruses, UCE, and from exercising poor judgement in deciding with whom they should communicate.
